April 15 (SeeNews) - EDF EN Canada Inc said Thursday it has signed 20-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) for 82 MW of wind and solar projects in the Canadian province.

The developments, the 60-MW Romney Wind Energy Centre, the 10-MW Barlow Solar Energy Centre and the 12-MW Pendleton Solar Energy Centre, are among the 16 projects selected by the IESO under the Large Renewable Procurement I Request for Proposal (LRP I RFP). The winning projects totalling 455 MW of capacity were announced in March. The IESO also said this week that the contracts awarded had been executed.

The wind farm, a partnership between EDF EN Canada and the Aamjiwnaang First Nation, is located on privately-owned land in the municipality of Chatham-Kent and the town of Lakeshore. It will consist of up to 20 wind turbines. Construction is scheduled to start in the summer of 2018, after the required provincial and municipal permits have been obtained, with commercial operation expected in 2019.

For the solar projects, the company is partnering with the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation. Barlow is located in the township of South Stormont, and Pendleton in the township of Alfred and Plantagenet. Construction is planned for 2018 and commercial operation by the end of that year.

EDF EN Canada is a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, the green energy unit of French energy group EDF SA (EPA:EDF).

Ontario this month launched a second phase of its Large Renewable Procurement (LRP II) process. A Request for Qualifications process will be issued by August 1, 2016 for 930 MW of renewable energy, the ministry of energy said.
