February 16 (SeeNews) - German industrial group Siemens AG (ETR:SIE) said today it expects to ramp up serial production of its 7-MW offshore wind turbine in the autumn of 2017, as it successfully passed final type certification recently.
As unveiled last month by international certification body DNV GL, Siemens has received final type certificate for its flagship SWT-7.0-154 turbine.
Today, Siemens said that field testing of the machine was recently extended with a second prototype and both units are currently undergoing grid performance, quality and safety tests. The company added that achieving final type certification allows customers to make final investment decisions for their offshore projects.
Siemens announced the first order for the 7-MW turbine in October with 47 units going to the Walney Extension East project in the Irish Sea developed by Danish utility Dong Energy A/S. The deal is part of a frame agreement concluded between Dong Energy and Siemens in 2012.
