Adani Group plans to set up a 1GW solar power project costing INR70 billion (US$1 billion) in the Indian state of Karnataka alongside investments in coal power and a sea port.

At the Karnataka state global investors meet, Adani Group founder and chairman Gautam Adani, reportedly said: “We are setting up two 800MW plants at our Udupi Power Corporation station at INR11.5 billion, and a 1,000 MW solar power project at INR70 billion and a greenfield seaport at Tadadi at INR20 billion on the coast.”

The coal plant is located near the temple town of Udupi and the sea port on the coast in the district of Dakshina Kannada.

During this year, the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka are expected to contribute nearly 80% of all new PV capacity additions in India, according to consultancy firm Bridge to India.
